The Movers and (Spear)Shakers

The WSP is grateful for the technological support and dedicated commitment of Emory's Center for Interactive Teaching (ECIT). Under ECIT's Director, Wayne Morse, and the Director of Academic Technologies, Alan Cattier, the WSP has benefitted from technology advice from the specialists Steve Bransford, Chris Fearrington, Shannon O'Daniel, Brenda Rockswold, and José Rodriguez. ECIT's efforts have made this endeavor possible. As Wade Moricle announced in the February 2012 'IT Newsletter' Cover Story, 'Global Shakespeare Transforms the Academic Mission Through Technology', the fruitful collaborative dialogue between ECIT and the WSP "speaks not only to the success of the venture, but offers a model for a new relationship between faculty and the instructional technologist."

The WSP is also generously supported by the Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning at Emory University, Atlanta, under the directorship of Holli Semetko.

In the UK, the WSP benefits from partnership with the Rose Theatre Kingston. The theater's Artistic Director, Stephen Unwin, and its Director Emeritus, Sir Peter Hall, lead a remarkable dramatic team. The Rose Theatre's productions of Shakespeare and Early Modern drama regularly attract the greatest names in British acting talent, and international acclaim. The Rose's 'Time to Talk' series also offers intimate onstage discussions between Unwin and famous stage and screen actors. Dame Judi Dench, Timothy West, Gillian Anderson, Zoe Wanamaker, and Michael Sheen are just some who've shared their theatrical expertise and knowledge with delighted Rose audiences. Designed as a state-of-the-art twenty-first century theatre in the style of the 16th century Rose Playhouse, the Rose Theatre Kingston is a welcoming and creative UK home for the WSP.

Shakespeare Central
Current access to Shakespearean resources online is convoluted and spread out. Shakespeare Central aims to combat this by creating a centralized and unified “one-stop hub” for all things Shakespeare. Their goal is to create an online archive with a variety of digital Shakespeare media from movies and videos to books and articles. These resources could easily be combined into custom syllabi, and tailored to the need of the student or teacher. Shakespeare Central promotes a world in which class, geography, and religion are not borders to Shakespeare. The project is by Peabody Award Winning Documentarian Steve Rowland, MBA.

University Beyond Bars
Currently, the United States imprisons a higher percentage of their country's population than any other country in the world. 7 out of 10 of these prisoners will return to prison within 3 years. Washington State does not fund any post-secondary education in prison, or any work assistance upon release. To combat this, University Beyond Bars is providing what they call “freedom through education.” The organization offers three educational pathways: degree, certificate, and lecture series. They are non-mandatory and non-discriminatory. The organization, the first to offer college instruction at Washington State Reformatory, offers programs to over 220 prisoners.
